Care Facilities
PROFILE
Assisted living, retirement homes, nursing homes… Quality of life means living a well-rounded lifestyle. It means social interaction and physical activity that help maintain independence. Whether the parent lives in an assisted living facility or at home with the help of home health care workers, he or she needs enough mental, physical, and emotional stimulation to remain engaged in the process of living.
Research and studies have proven that aging individuals who don’t stimulate their minds regularly may be more at risk for diseases such as various forms of dementia or Alzheimer’s. The aging brain is no less capable of learning new things that a younger brain, which is good news for today’s seniors.
NEED
More than ever assisted living facilities are looking for ways to keep their residents as busy as possible with physical and mental activities. At the same time, children and relatives are looking for ways to frequently connect with their loved ones, be able to share things like videos, interesting articles, or engage with them through a game. Computers provide a fantastic channel for linking people with each other, and to the world of information, entertainment, and mental exercise.SOLUTION
Xpack cloud thin client represents a great fit for Elder Care facilities as it offers a well-protected desktop system that’s friendly, simple, and best of all provides a mechanism for remote access and communication. Xpack’s energy and space-saving attributes make it a good fit for small quarters, and its custom browser OS provides protection from viruses and malware.Hardware
Moderro Xpack is a small (size of a paperback), low power, silent mini-computer. It weighs around 3 lbs and consumes on average 13W of power. Xpack comes with custom-designed keyboard and mouse, CAT5 and VGA cables, and mounting hardware. Xpack can be placed in a cradle that can stand along-side the monitor, or be attached to the back of the monitor using the VESA bracket (included). The unit comes with optional WiFi connectivity. CPU speed and RAM are configured appropriately for the usage. The keyboard has a built-in USB hub, which provides left or right-side mouse connection and USB media storage drive slot. Xpack is a solid state device, meaning that there are no moving parts (aside from a back-up fan) inside the enclosure.
Management System
Moderro offers hosted and on-premise management options. With the hosted option, there’s no server to install, or upgrades to maintain - the administrator simply logs on to the site to manage Xpacks remotely.
Maintenance
System maintenance can be performed automatically and does not require physical access to Xpack. Management system takes care of the upgrade. There is no risk in software incompatibilities as the upgrade images come pre-packaged with tightly integrated system components.Software
Installation
Installation is quick and straightforward. Administrator sets up and configures the settings for the set of terminals.
Once the Xpack and the monitor are connected, Xpack will register itself with the service and pick up its settings online. It will also identify its location and pick up the local settings for clock and weather. Xpack can be connected over CAT5 or WiFi networks. Recycling
Recycling is easy. There’s no user data stored on the system, so hard disk separation is not needed (unlike personal computers). The whole system can be disposed by sending it back to Moderro. Xpacks are designed to last 5 years or more. Specialized Software
In addition to providing a simple-to-use, manageable and internet-centric device that works for seniors and their loved one, Moderro is going one step further by building software that allows retirement home staff to interact with their guests, send them messages, reminders, and be able to assist them in a more meaningful way than ever before.
